2025 Banner Art

Happy new year! I’ve started work on some new banner art, so I thought it’d be nice to update the gallery with my progress so far on that.

The thumbnail art. I wanted to get a sense for the composition, character & environment design, and colours!

The difficult thing about drawing banners is how much of them gets cropped off - they’ll be displayed differently across different sites & devices, so they have to be pretty flexible!

I’ve drawn banners where anything outside of the “safe zone” has been kept fairly abstract/simple, but this time I wanted to try making something a little more detailed and grounded in a sense of place.

The sketch! The thumbnail was very cute, but it was just a thumbnail… Before progressing to a cleaner finish, I needed to work up a more solid sketch.

I’m pleased with how it’s coming along, but there’s a lot of dead space which I don’t like so much. So I’ll be spending some time figuring out how to fill some of that space next.
